My goal is to provide you with a truly stress free experience, and one of the most stressful parts of photoshoot planning seems to be figuring out what to wear.

Does it match? Will it look good on me? Will it make me look good in photos? What about the little ones?

Over the years, I've grown my client closet with intentional pieces that look flattering on anyone, photograph well, and are easy to match so that all you have to do is show up and enjoy the experience.

The client closet is always growing. What you see here is a portion of the closet and an overall aesthetic of what you can expect. If you decide to use the client closet I will pull some things before you come that I think would work well but you're always welcome to try things on and choose anything you like. The client closet is for mom and kids only. At the bottom of this guide I have some tips for getting dad ready for the session too!

The client closet ranges in sizes from XS-XL for women, and newborn to 12-14 kids.

Most of the dresses in the client closet are size flexible! I'll bring clips that we can use to tighten the dress to fit you in a flattering way (don't worry, I'll photoshop those out of your final images!). Most dresses are size medium to large, with a handful of small, x-small, and x-large.  The medium and large are meant to fit several sizes because of their flowy cut.

How do I know the dress will fit me?

The client closet for kids goes from size newborn to kids size 10-12. Below you can see a sample of what we have to offer. You can also bring your own pieces to mix and match.

I do not have any shoes for the client closet so you will be responsible to bring your own shoes.  Do not bring your child's play shoes to go with these nice outfits. If you don't have any nice shoes head to Walmart, Target, Amazon, or even a 2nd hand kids store and get a pair of shoes for the session. Sandals or short boots are always a safe bet!

If you are planning to style your family on your own here are some tips to follow to make sure you look your best.

My best advice is to follow the color palettes below. Find one that you love and look for coordinating outfits to go with it.

My favorite options for men are henley or simple shirts with jeans or neutral colored pants.

I put together some tips below that I think may help you if you're styling on your own. As always let me know how I can help you!

Styling for your session on your own

tips for men

When picking outfits I recommend keeping in mind the word “complement” rather than “match.” For example, choose a print and then some solids to compliment it. I love to find a color palette and work from there.

A good rule of thumb: pick a color palette and spread them throughout the family. Don't be afraid to mix a few subtle patterns or textures (such as linen).

And always keep the location in mind. If we're shooting in a green field, light green dresses might blend in too much with the surroundings. Neutrals and earth tones photograph very well.

A guide to styling on your own

tips for men

My favorite choice for men is a simple shirt that fits well with jeans or some neutral colored pants or shorts depending on the season.

Try to avoid mens dress shirts and formal khaki pants. We don't want Dad looking like he's going off to work. We want dad to look comfortable and complimentary to the rest of the families outfits.

Sweaters, quarter zip/button shirts, henley, fitted tee's all work really well.

Jeans, navy, tan, or grey pants all look great.

Take a look at how the dads are dressed on this client closet guide to get some ideas.

Tips for Men

tips for women

Flowy empire waist dresses photograph very well. This is my go to choice for womens' clothing. They look great in walking and photos with movement. Choose an outfit you feel comfortable in, but don’t be afraid to dress up! This also allows you to be active with your kids and still look great! And dresses with sleeves (long or short) are a great way to help slim arms.

Softer, pastel and neutral colors tend to photograph better than bright colors - especially since bright colors could reflect on your skin. Neon and bright colors can reflect on your skin and create a color cast.

Tips for Women

tips for shoes

Shoes are usually the last thing we think about but don't let them be forgotten. Your kids play sneakers don't look good in the nice outfit that you picked out for them. Head to Walmart, Target, Amazon, or even a kids 2nd hand store and find some appropriate shoes to go with their outfit.

As a mom I completely understand that having these nice shoes often go unworn but for photos it's worth the extra investment and you can certainly find something for under $20!

I recommend sandals, short boots, or simple and clean slip on shoes.

I don't provide any shoes with my client closet.

The client closet

Because it's impossible to show every item in the client closet here is a compilation of sessions all styled from the client closet. All moms and kids are styled by the client closet and all of the dads came in their own clothes. This is a great place to get some ideas on what to bring for dad as well as some ideas for shoes (kids are mostly barefoot in the studio)!
